Hiking Trails

South Rim Trails:

  1. Bright Angel Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 19 miles round trip (to Plateau Point)
    • Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous
    • Highlights: Well-maintained trail, rest houses with water, scenic views, and access to Plateau Point.

  2. South Kaibab Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 14 miles round trip (to Skeleton Point)
    • Difficulty: Strenuous
    • Highlights: Panoramic views, less crowded than Bright Angel Trail, steep descent.

  3. Rim Trail:

    • Distance: Up to 13 miles one way (shuttle buses available)
    • Difficulty: Easy to moderate
    • Highlights: Paved and mostly flat, offers stunning views of the canyon, accessible from various viewpoints.

North Rim Trails:

  1. North Kaibab Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 28 miles round trip (to Roaring Springs)
    • Difficulty: Strenuous
    • Highlights: Diverse ecosystems, spectacular views, access to Roaring Springs and Ribbon Falls.

  2. Widforss Trail:

    • Distance: 10 miles round trip
    • Difficulty: Moderate
    • Highlights: Scenic views, aspen and spruce-fir forests, less crowded than other trails.

  3. Cape Final Trail:

    • Distance: 4 miles round trip
    • Difficulty: Easy to moderate
    • Highlights: Panoramic views of the canyon, Jupiter Temple, and Vishnu Temple.

Inner Canyon Trails:

  1. Hermit Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 17 miles round trip (to Dripping Springs)
    • Difficulty: Strenuous
    • Highlights: Less crowded, scenic views, access to Dripping Springs and Santa Maria Spring.

  2. Grandview Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 12 miles round trip (to Horseshoe Mesa)
    • Difficulty: Strenuous
    • Highlights: Historic trail, panoramic views, access to Horseshoe Mesa and Coconino Saddle.

  3. Tonto Trail – MAP

    • Distance: Up to 70 miles one way (from Garnet to Red Canyon)
    • Difficulty: Very strenuous
    • Highlights: Long-distance trail, spectacular views, access to remote areas of the canyon.

Day Hikes:

  1. South Rim to Cedar Ridge (via South Kaibab Trail):

    • Distance: 3 miles round trip
    • Difficulty: Moderate
    • Highlights: Quick descent, panoramic views, restrooms at Cedar Ridge.

  2. South Rim to Plateau Point (via Bright Angel Trail):

    • Distance: 12 miles round trip
    • Difficulty: Strenuous
    • Highlights: Scenic views, Colorado River views, rest houses with water.
