Kachina Lodge

Built in 1971, Kachina Lodge represents the modernist era of canyon development. This concrete structure sits mere feet from the rim, offering straightforward motel-style accommodations without the historic character of its neighbors.

The 49 rooms are nearly identical – clean and functional with two queen beds, basic furnishings, and modest bathrooms. Half the rooms face the canyon (though views are partially obscured by the building’s design), while others overlook parking areas.

Kachina lacks its own dining facilities, but sits midway between El Tovar and Bright Angel restaurants. The lodge uses evaporative cooling rather than air conditioning – adequate in moderate temperatures but potentially uncomfortable during summer heat waves. Rooms start around $335, placing it in the mid-range of South Rim pricing.
